What Is Surprise Travel — And Why Is Everyone Talking About It?
Surprise travel — also called mystery travel or blind travel — is a style of trip where your destination and itinerary are kept secret from you until just before departure. You fill in a survey about your preferences, budget, and travel dates. Someone else handles everything. You find out where you're going 48–72 hours before you leave.
How does it actually work?
The process is simpler than it sounds. You start with a short survey — roughly five minutes — covering your budget, how many days you have, what kind of travel you prefer, any places you want to avoid, and how much mystery you want. Based on that, a trip is designed specifically for you. Stays, transport, and activities are all booked. The only thing you need to do is pack — and we even tell you roughly what to bring.
What's in the Reveal Box?
48–72 hours before your departure, a physical box arrives at your door. Inside: sealed envelopes for each day of the trip (not to be opened early), a personalised map with insider recommendations, a packing guide, and sometimes a few small surprises. You open the envelopes one morning at a time.
Is it safe?
Yes — completely. The trips are designed based on your specific preferences and comfort level. You can choose how much you want to know in advance, from a little to nothing at all. There are four mystery levels, from 'Sneak Peek' (you know the destination but not the details) to 'The Blind Trip' (you know nothing until the box arrives). There's also a 24/7 WhatsApp support line throughout the trip.
Why is it growing in India?
A few reasons. Planning a trip in India is genuinely hard — the options are overwhelming, the logistics are complicated, and the research takes forever. Secondly, Gen Z and millennial travellers are increasingly looking for experiences over destinations. Thirdly, India has an extraordinary number of under-visited places that most people never discover through standard travel research. Surprise travel is a way to get to them.
Who is it for?
Anyone who's felt the friction of planning and wanted to skip it. Couples who want a genuinely different anniversary trip. Groups of friends who can never agree on where to go. Solo travellers who want structure without the research. People who've been to the same five places and want to go somewhere new. The one thing most of our travellers have in common is that they're done with ordinary trips.
